The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published today its Annual Report for 2015, which describes the key accomplishments by ESMA in 2015.

In 2015, ESMA has made significant steps in realising its mission of enhancing investor protection and promoting stable and orderly financial markets through a variety of means, namely assessing risks to investors, markets and financial stability, creating a single rulebook, promoting supervisory convergence and supervising credit rating agencies and trade repositories.

Steven Maijoor, Chair of ESMA, and Verena Ross, Executive Director of ESMA, both highlighted the achievements in the field of the development of the Single Rulebook and in investor protection, in particular through the work on MiFID II, which was and continues to be the most significant piece of regulation that ESMA has ever undertaken, according to Maijoor.

The report presents a comparison of ESMA’s achievements against its 2015 objectives, namely convergence, risk monitoring and analysis, single rulebook, and supervision. It concludes with an overview of ESMA operations, budget and structure. The ESMA statement together with the full Annual Report is available here.
