German regulator focuses on FinTech in monthly roundup

The German financial regulator BaFin has today published its latest issue of the BaFin Journal. The regulator publishes this monthly bulletin that contains technical articles, interviews and reports on important national and international regulatory issues as well as the official announcements of insurance supervision.

This month’s issue focuses amongst other topics on the First Act Amending Financial Market Regulations, which came into force on 1 July. As means of background, on 6 January 2016, the Federal Cabinet adopted the government draft (only available in German) of the First Act Amending Financial Market Regulations (Erstes Finanzmarktnovellierungsgesetz). This act, like a large number of German financial markets provisions, mainly serves to adjust national legislation to new European provisions.

The latter are intended to strengthen the integrity and transparency of capital markets and improve investor protection.

The Journal also looks at FinTechs and the regulator’s dedicated event, BaFinTech, which it held at the end of June.

The full journal is available here (in German). If you have any questions with regard to German regulation for FinTechs, please do get in touch with us.
