The Business Spotlight on… eXate

  1. What can you tell us about your company and your products & services?

Driven by our belief in the value that data holds, our mission is to make data privacy simple by abstracting the complexity away from the users and developers.  Our data middleware solution allows clients to apply rules that control how data is accessed and allows firms to manage 1) the enforcement of internal policy, 2) the flow of cross-border data transfers with respect to Sovereign Data Walls (data localisation rules), and 3) the rights of data subjects around items such as consent and right to be forgotten.

Data is a valuable asset and eXate’s patent pending “passport control for data” solution provides the world’s most granular control on data, allowing clients to apply rules which easily and effectively control how data is accessed and reported, enabling the complete control of information and regulatory compliance across the globe.

  1. How came you up with the idea and what drives you?

In our previous roles, we were responsible for developing and rolling out solutions for a major global bank.  Through our experiences of navigating and developing solutions to various regulations across the world, we learned the challenges shared by all global financial institutions.  At eXate, we are solving the problems that we experienced on a daily basis.

  1. What is it that makes your company different from others?

We take data protection and data access controls to the most granular level. By protecting data on an attribute by attribute basis and assigning data ownership to an individual, eXate offers the most granular controls on data. Additionally, we enable clients to control their data from one centralized location (rather than at hundreds or thousands of applications).  Lastly, we allow the relevant business, legal and compliance teams to define the rules around data (as opposed to relying on IT).

  1. Where are you based?

London, United Kingdom

  1. When was the company launched?

March, 2015

  1. What traction have you made? Can you tell us about your biggest achievements so far?

To date, eXate have been engaged with the some of largest financial institutions in the world across several regions including London, New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tel-Aviv and Abu Dhabi. Our biggest achievement so far has been the global industry recognition that we have received. We were honored to have won the Innovate Finance Pitch 360 competition, both for Best RegTech and Best Overall. Additionally, we were the recipient of the Regulation Asia “One to Watch” award for 2018.

  1. What advice could you give to other entrepreneurs and start-ups?

Validate your product as much as you can.  Meet as many people as possible and absorb all of their feedback.  Mostly, however, follow your dream and never give up. Start ups only fail once the founders quit.

  1. What can you tell us about your team?

The eXate team is comprised of experienced international Banking and IT professionals. As such, we understand the importance of keeping data safe, and we understand the challenges of working in a large and complex global organisation.  It is this experience that provides the backbone and the value in the eXate offering.

  1. What’s next for your company?

The next phase for eXate is to apply the solutions that we have developed for structured data to unstructured data.  We have already commenced work on applying our attribute level solution to protecting individual words in a document and applying rules to who can view this data.

  1. How do potential customers and investors get in touch with you?
